Bandai's Lalabit offers motorcycle helmet based on hero's fighter gear

Not-So-Daily Link of the Day: LaLaBit Market, the Japanese online retailer maintained by Bandai Networks, announced on December 21 that it is offering a regulation motorcycle helmet based on the lead character's fighter helmet in the classic Space Battleship Yamato anime. Kodai, the hero of this space opera anime which was adapted as Star Blazers in the United States, pilots a Type Cosmo-Zero fighter. The Sports Nippon newspaper called Yamato the predecessor to Gundam and Evangelion, the two other major science fiction franchises that boosted the popularity of anime among fans and the general public in the last three decades.

The Space Battleship Yamato Bike Helmet Type Cosmo-Zero recreates Kodai's helmet to mark the 30th anniversary of the franchise's first movie. LaLaBit is accepting preorders for 13,650 yen (about US$119.29) until February 20, and will ship the helmet at the end of March. The regulation motorcycle helmet comes with an visor shield, an Earth Defense Forces helmet bag, and a clip with the logo from the uniform of the battleship's Captain Okita.

LaLaBit previously sold Type Char3, Type RX-78 Gundam, and Type Hyaku Shiki motorcycle helmets from the Gundam franchise; Renton and Moon Doggie helmets from Eureka Seven; a Laughing Man helmet from Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex; a Pointer-Go helmet from Ultraseven, and a Kamen Rider Hibiki Honda helmet from the real-life Kamen Rider Hibiki Honda Racing team.
