Japanese-Animated Batman: Gotham Knight's Promo Video (Updated)

posted on by Egan Loo
Studio 4°C, Production I.G, Madhouse working with Bruce Timm on project

Chris Drake, one of the composers for the joint American/Japanese production of the Batman: Gotham Knight animated video collection, has pointed to an online trailer for the project. Drake reveals that he, Robert J. Kral (Angel), and Kevin Manthei (Invader Zim, Justice League: New Frontier) each wrote music for two of the six stories of DC Comics' iconic masked detective. The Japanese animation studios Studio 4°C (The Animatrix, Genius Party), Production I.G (Ghost in the Shell, Blood the Last Vampire), and Madhouse (X movie, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust) are working with the Batman films' Warner Brothers and Bruce Timm, the acclaimed co-creator and producer of Batman the Animated Series and other animated DC Universe projects. All three anime studios worked on another American/Japanese animated movie tie-in video from Warner Brothers, The Animatrix. The Batman video is planned for a June release.

Batman comic writers Brian Azzarello and Greg Rucka, A History of Violence film writer Josh Olson, Batman Begins writer David S. Goyer, The Dark Knight producer Jordan Goldberg, and Batman: The Animated Series writer Alan Burnett are each contributing the script for one of the shorts. Even before this project, other Japanese creators have helped develop the Batman mythos — specifically, Tokyo Movie Shinsha and Sunrise (Batman: The Animated Series), Kia Asamiya (Batman: The Child of Dreams comic series), and Katsuhiro Otomo (Batman: Black & White #4's "The Third Mask" comic short story).
