Ichijo's Pride Manga Adapted into Live-Action Film

Half-Japanese singer Stephanie, Death Note helmer Kaneko aim for January 2009

Yukari Ichijō's Pride manga will be made into a live-action film that is set to open at the end of January 2009. The story follows two budding opera singers who go from rivals to "best partners." The film version will star Stephanie, a half-Japanese, half-Armenian-American pop singer, and feature Death Note's Shusuke Kaneko in the director's chair. The manga has been serializing in Shueisha's Chorus magazine since its December 2002 issue, and the manga's eighth compiled volume has sold 270,000 copies.

Ichijo's Yukan Club manga has been made into both an anime video and a live-action drama series. None of her works have been officially released in North America yet. Stephanie previously wrote and sang "Kimi ga iru Kagiri" and "because of you" for Engage Planet Kiss Dum, and she sang "Friends" for Mobile Suit Gundam 00.
