Stephan 'Eco-Anime' Previewed Online in 10 Languages

posted on by Egan Loo
Figure-animation to be shown at Junior 8 Summit in Hokkaido, Japan this week

Stephan, an animated video designed to present environmental issues to children, will be shown during the Junior 8 Summit 2008 event in Japan this week, and a selection of scenes has already been posted online in 10 languages. The anime provides an allegory for the real world by depicting a robot that — like the rest of his fictional, mechanical brethren — needs oil like food. YouTube is hosting the video, which is dubbed in the robots' "language," with subtitles in English, German, French, Italian, Russian, Japanese, Arabic, Chinese, Korean, or Spanish. Muku developed the video by animating actual figures; Muku's OLC Rights Entertainment parent also dealt with two other figure-based projects which were animated in Japan: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Santa Claus is Coming to Town from the American producers at Rankin/Bass.

The Junior 8 Summit is a companion event to the G8 summit, the annual meeting of eight of the top world leaders and other officials. The Junior 8 Summit assembles children from around the world for their own meeting before the G8 summit begins.
