Anpanman's Yanase Creates Children's Safety Anime

Shinjuku Shin-chan Patrol teaches kids to protect themselves from "bad adults"

Not-So-Daily Link of the Day: Anpanman picture-book and anime creator Takashi Yanase co-created a children's crime-prevention anime called Shinjuku Shin-chan Patrol: Warui Otona ni Ki o Tsukete ("Shinjuku Shin-chan Patrol: Be Careful of Bad Adults") for his native Tokyo ward of Shinjuku. The 20-minute video's cowboy-hat-wearing hero, Shinjuku Shin-chan, teaches children how to protect themselves from "bad adults" such as the Bikkuri Kamen (Frightening Mask) villains. The video covers what to do "when a person driving a car calls out to you," "when you're riding an elevator alone," "when you return home alone and no one's home," and "when someone you don't know calls on the phone."

The anime will premiere on the Tokyo MX broadcasting station on August 24 at noon. Shibuya's infomation centers, the Shibuya Central Library, and the neighboring Yotsuya Library will then begin lending out the video on tape and DVD on August 26 for free. There will be (Japanese) subtitled videos for the hearing-challenged. The ward's website will also begin distributing the video online.
