Bones Anime Studio Issues Report on Leaked Document

posted on by Egan Loo
File revealed animators' personal info, new Fullmetal Alchemist anime

On November 18, the Bones anime studio posted its report about the document that was leaked online with confidential studio information in July. The document included the personal information of nearly 300 animators and indirectly revealed the existence of a new Fullmetal Alchemist anime. The document's title used the name "Bones," and many of the animators were involved in Bones productions.

However, the report confirmed the studio's initial findings that the file was not created at the studio, and added that it was uploaded from a location outside the studio. While the studio concluded that a third party had caused the leak, it has yet to identify the individual or individuals involved. Bones notes that there are many people who have had enough dealings with the studio to obtain the information in the document, and the chances are high that the third party is among these people.

For the animators that were affected by the incident, Bones will defray the costs of changing the contact information that were compromised by the leaked document. Bones is also enforcing stricter information management from now on, including commiting employees to an oath of confidentiality. Bones conducted its investigation in cooperation with The Association of Japanese Animations (AJA) industry group and the Japanese Animation Creators Association (JAniCA), a labor organization. The findings were first released during a meeting on November 8.
