Bandai Remakes Complete Dragon Ball 1988-1990 Card Set

Not-So-Daily Link of 2008 II: Here is one of the stories that fell through the cracks in 2008.
Bandai Japan announced in December that it would once again sell a complete set of the first Dragon Ball cards ever made, the Carddas line from 1988-1990. According to Bandai, the Carddas line based on Akira Toriyama's manga and anime was a huge seller among elementary school boys, and 2 billion Carddas cards were randomly distributed and sold in vending machines in its first decade. To mark the 20th anniversary, Bandai began selling the Carddas Dragon Ball Complete Box Volume 1 Premium Set on December 26.
The set replicates all 168 cards from the first four 42-card series of the line, and adds four new hologram cards, a binder, and a special 12-page booklet. The first 84 cards cover the original Dragon Ball story, and the second half covers the anime version's Dragon Ball Z storyline. Now that the elementary school boys of the Eighties and Nineties are grown-up, the new set is priced at 10,500 yen (about US$115, tax included). Bandai aims to sell 10,000 sets by the end of March.
Since 1988, the Cardas brand has branched into SD Gundam, Sailor Moon, Gash Bell, and other franchises. In all, 8.75 billion cards have been sold (as of March 2008). The cards are sold in 100,000 toy stores, card game shops, department stores, mass toys retailers, and other locations in Japan.
