Huang Chun-chan's "Poor Knight" from Taiwan wins; 4th contest set for December

Kodansha's Morning magazine has posted the results of the 3rd Morning International Manga Competition in English. The announcement contains summaries and judges' comments on Huang Chun-chan's Grand-Prize-winning "Poor Knight" entry, the Second Prize entry (Lin's "Shinigami," pictured below), and the 13 finalist entries. It also includes comments from Huang and Lin on their respective wins.

According to Morning, "Poor Knight" is about a college student who "works at a local convenience store to earn a living. One day, two young thugs pass by his store acting like costumers and decide to tie him up. Being goofy and incompetent, the two criminals struggle to crack open the store's safe. While the burglars are preoccupied, our hero awakens a Binbougami (God of Poverty) who's been haunting the store's old cash register for a long time…." The work will be published on Morning's website on April 22 after being published in the Morning 2 magazine itself on March 21.

Morning magazine is already accepting submissions for the 4th Morning International Manga Competition. The new competition's deadline is December 31. As before, the winning entry will be published in Morning magazine or its Morning 2 spinoff. Morning 2 published rem's "Kage no Matsuri" after that manga won the first competition, and it published Meng-Li Yu's (YOVOVA's) "Fairy Tale" in May after it won the second competition. Morning 2 will publish a 50-page "Canned Town" color short story by Yovova on March 21, and it is still serializing Peepo Choo by American artist Felipe Smith.
