Saint-Laurent's Lulu to Be Animated by Japanese-American

posted on by Egan Loo
Tokyo-based Max Weintraub animates La vilaine Lulu girl for April 4 debut in Japan

The official website has launched for the television adaptation of the La vilaine Lulu (Otenba Lulu) picture book by the late fashion icon Yves Saint-Laurent, and the site confirms that Max Weintraub is producing the animation. Weintraub is a Japanese-American animator who has been living and working in Japan. (In the linked page, select "English" and then select "Work" to preview his previous projects.) Saint-Laurent originally created the cartoons in his picture book in 1956, when he was a 20-year-old working for the Christian Dior haute couturier. The cartoons follow the bizarre fantasies of a mischievous girl named Lulu.

The Tokyo MX TV broadcasting station will premiere the television series on April 4. Kentarō Kihara is composing the music for the project.
