Report: Moribito to Return to Adult Swim TV in Summer

ADV's Matt Greenfield indicates movement on proposed live-action Eva film

The Nebs Blog reports, from Media Blasters' booth at this weekend's Anime Central convention, that the Moribito - Guardian of the Spirit (Seirei no Moribito) anime series is returning to the Adult Swim television block in the United States this summer. The new run will include the entire series, and not just the 10 episodes that ran last year. The Moribito anime adapts Nahoko Uehashi's intricately detailed fantasy novel about a spearwoman who protects a prince from his own father and other enemies. Adult Swim gave Moribito its North American premiere last August, but removed the anime in January after running and then repeating the first 10 episodes.

The North American publisher Scholastic published the novel in English last June. Media Blasters picked up the distribution rights for the anime from Geneon Entertainment (USA), and Bang Zoom! Entertainment has been dubbing the episodes since before its August television premiere.

Matt Greenfield, ADV Films Senior Vice President of Content and Acquisitions, also indicated at Anime Central that there has been movement on the proposed live-action film adaptation of Gainax's Neon Genesis Evangelion television anime series. However, he acknowledged that he cannot comment further on the ongoing negotiations. ADV Films distributes the original television series in North America, while Manga Entertainment released the two 1997 anime film versions and Funimation announced its acquisition of 2007's Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone theatrical anime remake.
