Eva Phone Supplies Increased by 7,500 to Meet Demand

posted on by Egan Loo

The Japanese mobile phone service provider NTT Docomo has announced on Friday that it increased its allotment of official Evangelion SH-06A Nerv phones by 7,500, since it received far more pre-orders than it had planned. NTT Docomo began offering 20,000 phones at about 97,440 yen (about US$992) each through pre-orders at its shops on June 5 at 10:00 a.m. By 3:00 p.m., it had to stop accepting orders. However, the massive number of requests had already caused NTT's pre-order processing system to shut down, so NTT switched to paper-based application forms during the day. When the company tallied all the applications from the different shops, they exceeded 20,000.

To ensure that all pre-orders will be honored, the creators agreed to produce 7,500 more phones. As previously planned, 10,000 more will be available at volume sellers and regular retail stores from July to August for a grand total of 37,500 phones.
