Kimi ni Todoke Manga to Resume in Japan in September

Karuho Shiina took break to have baby; Production I.G to produce anime

The July issue of Shueisha's Bessatsu Margaret magazine announced on Saturday that Karuho Shiina will resume her Kimi ni Todoke romantic comedy manga in the October issue, which will ship in September 12. Shiina had taken time off to have a baby, so the manga has been on hiatus since February. The August issue will publish one installment on July 13, two months before the manga's full return.

The manga follows the coming-of-age story of Sawako Kuronuma, a high school girl whose long black hair and pallid skin leads the other kids to call her Sadako (after the ghost character in The Ring horror stories). She eventually changes her life with a little help from the popular boy Kazehaya and her other classmates.

The current issue of Bessatsu Margaret magazine also announced that Production I.G will produce the television anime series that will premiere this fall. Hiro Kaburagi (episode director on Le Chevalier D'Eon, Welcome to the NHK, and Fantastic Children) will direct off scripts that are being supervised by Tomoko Konparu (Glass no Kamen, NANA, Nodame Cantabile). Yuka Shibata is designing the characters (Grrl Power). The magazine provided a key visual image (pictured at right) for the anime.

Viz Media will launch the original manga in North America next month. The manga was nominated for the first ever Manga Taisho Awards last year, and it won the Best Shōjo Manga award in the 32nd Annual Kodansha Manga Awards last spring.
