New Gundam Manga Launching in Japan's Gundam Ace Mag

posted on by Egan Loo
Stories set during, after 1st Gundam's 1 Year War & Gundam 00's timeline

The August issue of Kadokawa Shoten's Monthly Gundam Ace magazine shipped on Friday with the first chapters of Masato Natsumoto's Kidō Senshi Gundam Senki U.C. 0081-Suiten no Namida- (Mobile Suit Gundam Battlefield Record U.C. 0081: Tears of the Seas and Skies) manga and Tsukasa Kotobuki's Kidō Senshi Gundam: Day after Tomorrow ~Kai Shiden no Memory yori~ (Mobile Suit Gundam: Day after Tomorrow: From Kai Shiden's Memories) manga.

In the same issue, Meimu's manga adaptation of the computer-animated Mobile Suit Gundam MS IGLOO 2: Jūryoku Sensen video series and Yoshihiro Sono's Kidō Senshi Gundam: Orera Renpō Guren-tai manga ended. The next issue will ship in July with the first chapters of scenario writer Tomohiro Chiba and artist Koichi Tokita's Mobile Suit Gundam 00I manga, and Mizuho Takayama's tentatively titled Kidō Senshi Gundam: Zeon MS Shōnen Yūgeki Tokka-hei manga. (The current issue includes previews of these upcoming manga.)

The Suiten no Namida manga ties into the Mobile Suit Gundam Battlefield Record U.C. 0081 action game that will ship for the Sony PlayStation 3 game in Japan this fall. The story of the game centers on the skirmishes between an Earth Federation special operations unit and an insurgent Zeon counteroffensive unit, shortly after the Federation won the One Year War of the first Gundam series. Natsumoto previously drew the Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: Space, To the End of A Flash..., Mobile Suit Gundam: Lost War Chronicles, The King of Fighters: Kyo, and Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight manga.

The Kai Shiden no Memory yori manga centers on the flashbacks of a former Federation pilot named Kai Shiden who served aboard the White Base space carrier — the focal point of the first Gundam series. Kotobuki created an earlier manga called Kidō Senshi Gundam: Day after Tomorrow ~Kai Shiden no Report yori~ (Mobile Suit Gundam: Day after Tomorrow: From Kai Shiden's Report). He was also the character designer of Battle Arena Toshinden, Cyberteam in Akihabara, and Saber Marionette J.
