Crunchyroll Streams 'Altered' Charger Girl Ju-den Chan (Updated)

The Crunchyroll media-distribution website began streaming the first three episodes of the Charger Girl Ju-den Chan (Fight Ippatsu! Jūden-chan!!) anime series on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. PDT (Thursday at 9:30 a.m. JT). Several scenes of nudity and urination were edited or obscured, although not all such scenes were edited out of all of the episodes. The anime originally premiered on June 25 on the AT-X satellite/cable channel, and no over-the-air broadcast station is currently airing it.
The anime adapts the Fight Ippatsu! Jūden-chan!! science-fiction comedy manga from Bow Ditama, who previously drew the art for Bunjuro Nakayama's Mahoromatic manga and created the Kiss×sis manga. The story revolves around Plug, a mysterious woman who came to our world from a parallel world with the ability to "charge" up dejected people.
Crunchyroll acknowledges the edits in its press release: "In preparing the title for a broader audience, avex entertainment, Inc. and Crunchyroll have worked closely together to make slight alterations to the original Japanese version of the show, which will later be used for its Japanese rebroadcast on UHF stations." Crunchyroll has not yet responded to ANN's request for further comments.

Update: Crunchyroll released the following statement:
Due to the nature of the original AT-X version, Crunchyroll chose to air the censored version of Charger Girl Ju-den Chan to ensure the protection of our younger audiences and allow all audiences to watch and enjoy Charger Girl Ju-den Chan.
