Not-So-Daily Link of the Day: America's 7-Eleven chain of convenience stores has posted the first of three newly animated "webisodes" featuring NHK Japan's fuzzy, brown Domo mascot character on the slurpee.com website. The Japanese animation studio dwarf inc. created these shorts with stop-motion animation, as it did for the first Domo shorts seen in Japan. The new shorts tell "the story of Domo and his friends on a quest for a Slurpee beverage." The webisodes tie into a new Domo DVD and a comic book from Tokyopop.

As part of Big Tent Entertainment's Domo promotion this month, 7-Eleven stores are offering three collectible Slurpee cups filled with Fuji Frost by Fanta, four flocked Slurpee character straws, Big Bite hot dog containers shaped like Domo's jaws, a special 99-cent brown Domo coffee cup "to reach younger coffee drinkers," and an exclusive Domo Attack! Energy drink. Domo Qee miniature action figures, plush characters, caps, T-shirts, and gift-cards will also be available.

Jay Wilkins, 7-Eleven category manager for proprietary cold beverages, said, "Fuji Frost has a sweet red-apple taste, which is a tongue-in-cheek choice since apples are the one food Domo doesn't like. Because Domo loves Slurpee drinks and appears everywhere in our stores, theoretically Fuji Frost Slurpee drinks are Domo-proof."

Stop-motion animation shorts were previously created for the Domo Halloween campaign in the Target chain of department stores last year.
