The Friends of Lulu organization has announced that the prolific manga quartet CLAMP and Fruits Basket creator Natsuki Takaya have been nominated in The Female Cartoonists and Comic Book Writer's Hall of Fame category in the 2009 Lulu Awards. CLAMP's many manga works include X, Magic Knight Rayearth, Cardcaptor Sakura, Chobits, xxxHOLiC, and Tsubasa, RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE. The late Nordic creator Tove Jansson and American scribe Gail Simone (Wonder Woman, Secret Six, Birds of Prey) have also been nominated in the same category. Jansson created the Moomin comics that inspired four anime series and one anime movie. Mariko and Jillian Tamaki, the Japanese-Canadian cousins who created the Ignatz Award-winning Skim graphic novel, are collectively and separately nominated for the Kim Yale Award for Best New Talent, Lulu of the Year, and Best Female Character (Kimberly “Skim” Keiko Cameron). Web cartoonist and manga editor Shaenon K. Garrity also earned a Lulu of the Year nomination for her Skin Horse work. MangaBlog writer Brigid Alverson is among this year's seven judges.
