Hulu, YouTube make English Yuusei Shonen Papii available for 1st time in 3 decades

The Hulu and YouTube websites have begun streaming Prince Planet, American International Television Productions' English adaptation of the 1965-1966 science-fiction television anime classic Yuusei Shonen Papii. According to the press release by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. (MGM), this is the first time that this series from Tele-Cartoon Japan (TCJ or Television Corporation of Japan) has been widely available in North America since 1979. More than 45 episodes of the original 52 episodes will be streamed.

MGM acquired the rights to the Prince Planet dub when it acquired the assets of Orion Pictures; Orion Pictures had previously acquired Filmways, who in turn had acquired American International even earlier. TCJ produced the original anime for Dentsu Advertising in conjunction with K. Fujita Associates. The anime premiered on Fuji Television in 1965. James Nicholson and Samuel Z. Arkoff produced the English adaptation. MGM describes the story of Prince Planet as thus:

Set in the 21st century of New Metropolis, story relates the exploits of Prince Planet, a youngster from the Universal Peace Corps as he uses his unique powers to maintain peace in the universe, fighting evil and defending justice along with his friends Adji-Baba, Dynamo and Diana.
