Amuro's voice Tohru Furuya to light 5-meter tree made of 60+ plastic models

Not-So-Daily Link of the Day: A "Gundam Tree" made of over 60 plastic models from the robot anime franchise will be erected in the Tokyo otaku shopping district of Akihabara on December 3. The tree, which will stand about five meters (about 16 feet) tall, will mark the release of the Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam vs. Gundam Next Plus action game (pictured below) for the Sony PSP portable console on the same day. Mainichi Shimbun paper's website posted a mockup image of what the tree will look like.

The tree will be illuminated in Gundam's signature colors of red, blue, and white. Tohru Furuya, the voice actor of the first Gundam anime's main character Amuro Ray, will man the switch to light the tree on December 3. The first 100 people who buy the PSP game can take a photograph with Furuya.

Furuya was among the special guests at the opening of the 18-meter-tall (59-foot-tall), life-size Gundam statue on Odaiba island in Tokyo Bay on July 10. According to the organizers' estimates, over 4 million people visited the statue by the time it officially closed on August 30.
