Japanese Box Office, December 19-20

One Piece Film Strong World, the 10th anime film based on Eiichiro Oda's One Piece pirate manga, remained at #1 for a second consecutive weekend on Kogyo Tsushinsha's Japanese box office chart during the December 19-20 weekend. According to Variety and Rentrak Theatrical, it earned US$4,747,158 during the weekend of December 19-20, for a total-to-date of US$24,901,704.
Saishū Gakushō (Nodame Cantabile: The Final Score), the first film in a two-part theatrical finale inspired by Tomoko Ninomiya's Nodame Cantabile musical romance manga, opened at #2. It earned US$4,364,808 on 409 screens. The two movies continue the story of the 2006 live-action television drama series and this year's two-part Nodame Cantabile Shinshun Special in Europe television special. Ninomiya's original manga ended in October, and a spinoff manga launched in December.
Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Double & Decade: Movie War 2010 fell to #4 after debuting at #2 on Kogyo Tsushinsha's chart last weekend. It earned US$2,060,193 on 293 screens to add to its US$8,376,765 total.
Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva (Layton Kyōju to Eien no Utahime), an animated movie based on Nintendo and Level5's hit puzzle adventure game series, landed at #6. It earned US$1,031,505 on 311 screens. Castmembers Yō Ōizumi (Brave Story, Howl's Moving Castle) and Maki Horikita (Densha Otoko series, Always: Sunset on Third Street) reprised their respective roles of Layton and Luke in the movie.
The live-action special-effects film Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legend The Movie fell from #5 to #7 on Kogyo Tsushinsha's chart (#8 according to the Variety and Rentrak Theatrical's chart). It garnered US$905,257 on 135 screens for a total-to-date of US$2,989,901.
Space Battleship Yamato Resurrection, the first film in the Yamato space opera franchise in 26 years, fell off the chart after debuting at #7 last weekend.
