Anime Network to Simulcast Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaō (Updated)

posted on by Egan Loo
New school comedy anime to debut on Japanese TV, online in U.S. on April 2

The Anime Network has announced on Tuesday that it will simulcast the television anime adaptation of Shōtarō Mizuki's Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaō magical fantasy novels starting this Friday, April 2. The simulcast is available to users who register for free on Anime Network's website.

The story of "love, magic, and battles" revolves around Akuto Sai (Takashi Kondō, Katekyo Hitman Reborn!'s Kyouya Hibari, Heroic Age's Iolaus), a boy who aims to become part of his country's highest order of magicians and contribute to society. On the day he is admitted into the Constant Magical Academy, his aptitude test predicts the following: "Future Occupation … Devil King." Thus begins his difficult school life in which he is resented by his studious female class head, desired by a girl with mysterious powers, and guarded by a beautiful female android.

Director Takashi Watanabe (Boogiepop Phantom, New Fist of the North Star) and the Artland anime studio (Macross, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Mushi-Shi) are animating the new series. The voice actress group Sphere (Minako Kotobuki, Ayahi Takagaki, Haruka Tomatsu, Aki Toyosaki) is performing the opening theme song "REALOVE:REALIFE," while Natsuko Aso is singing the "Everyday sunshine line!" ending theme. Marvelous Entertainment's website is currently streaming a two-minute promotional video for the series.

Update: More background information added.
