Warner Picks Up Sakurazaka's All You Need is Kill Novel

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins

The Hollywood entertainment website Deadline.com reports that Warner Brothers has paid a low seven-figure price for a Dante Harper-scripted theatrical adaptation of All You Need Is Kill, a novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. Viz Media announced in January of 2009 that it would publish Sakurazaka's novel in English as part of a new imprint called Haikasoru for English-translated science-fiction and fantasy novels from Japan.

All You Need Is Kill revolves around a battle-armored soldier who finds himself dying and re-incarnating over and over again. Warner Brothers executives made a deal that includes an aggressive clause that will probably move the project to the filming stage within 12 months. Jason Hoffs, a former DreamWorks executive who is head of production at Viz Productions, will produce the movie along with 3 Arts' Erwin Stoff (The Blind Side, The Day The Earth Stood Still) and Tom Lassally (Extract, The Goode Family). Viz Media President and CEO Hidemi Fukuhara will be the executive producer for the project.
