The Nippon Cinema website notes that the North American movie distribution company Well Go USA will be releasing the live-action adaptation of Otsu-ichi's Goth novel on DVD on May 11. The DVD will have a Japanese audio track with English subtitles.

Actor Kanata Hongō starred in this Japanese live-action film adaptation of Otsu-ichi's mystery suspense novel. Otsu-ichi is also known for his novels Calling You (released by Tokyopop) and ZOO (released by Viz Media). Goth follows a high school boy and girl who are obssessed with death as they try to solve a series of murders. Rin Takanashi made her film debut as the main female character Yoru Morino. Gen Takahashi's film opened in Japan in December 2008, while Tokyopop released the original novel and the one-volume manga adaptation by Kendi Oiwa (Welcome to the NHK, Tsukumo Happy Soul) in North America in 2008.

America's Fox Atomic, with Kadokawa Shoten as executive producer, is developing a separate live-action film based on the manga. Fox Atomic signed J.T. Petty (Splinter Cell game series, Batman Begins game, The Burrowers movie) to write and direct the film project.
