Gonzo Makes Crackdown 2/Riot Act 2 Game-Based Anime

The Japanese studio Gonzo has produced Riot Act 2 Special Movie — four promotional comedy anime episodes for Riot Act 2, the game which Microsoft will ship for its Xbox 360 console in July worldwide. The third-person shooter game, which was developed by Ruffian Games, is known as Crackdown 2 outside Japan. Like the Crackdown/Riot Act games that inspired them, the all-new anime episodes center around the player character who is an "Agent," the ultimate battle machine designed to take out the gangs that have infested the futuristic metropolis of Pacific City.

Trigun character designer Takahiro Yoshimatsu is directing, designing, and overseeing the animation for Riot Act 2 Special Movie. Shinichi Niizeki and Mikito Nunome not only conceived of the anime's story concepts, but also voiced the characters Sam and Eric, respectively. Comedian/professional wrestler Yoshihiro Sakai, a.k.a. Muscle Sakai, makes his voice-acting debut as the main character "Agent."

Starting on Thursday, one episode of the anime will be released every week on the promotional site www.riotact2.jp/promo and XBox Live Marketplace in Japan.
