High School Debut Shōjo Manga Gets Live-Action Film

Kazune Kawahara's story of girl who hires boy to remake her image to get boyfriend

The September issue of Shueisha's Bessatsu Margaret magazine has announced on Wednesday that a live-action film adaptation of Kazune Kawahara's High School Debut (Kōkō Debut) shōjo manga has been green-lit. The release date, cast, and other details have not been announced yet.

In this high school romantic comedy, a girl named Haruna recruits a boy named Yoh to remake her image and get a boyfriend. Under Yoh's "coaching," Haruna transforms from a softball-playing tomboy to a feminine girl. However, Yoh adds one catch to their agreement: Haruna cannot fall in love with Yoh himself.

The manga ran in Bessatsu Margaret from 2003 to 2008, and 13 book volumes were compiled and published. Viz Media published the final manga volume in North America in February. Kawahara has been drawing her new Aozora Yell (Yell for the Blue Sky) high school band manga in Bessatsu Margaret since August of 2008.
