Redline's N. American Debut at Austin's Fantastic Fest

New feature from MADHOUSE with The Animatrix's Koike, Funky Forest's Ishii

Fantastic Fest has announced that the Japanese animated feature Redline will have its North American premiere at the event, which runs from September 23 to September 30 in Austin, Texas. The film will not open in Japan until October 9, although it has had advance screenings at international film festivals.

Redline is a new feature from famed studio MADHOUSE and is set in the distant future where our usual four-wheeled vehicles are replaced by multi-wheeled flying air cars. It follows the intertwined journeys of competitors in the deadliest car-racing game in the universe called the Redline, which is held once every five years. Director Takeshi Koike (The Animatrix's "World Record") collaborated with writer Katsuhito Ishii (Funky Forest: The First Contact, Piroppo, Trava) on the project. Takuya Kimura (Howl's Moving Castle), Tadanobu Asano (Tokyo Zombie), and Yū Aoi (Honey and Clover) lead the cast.

Manga Entertainment will be releasing the film in North America. The official Redline channel on the You Tube website began streaming three 37-second trailers in July.

The Paramount Theater and the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema on South Lamar will host the festival. The lineup also includes a gala screening for the feature film Stone with actor Edward Norton and director John Curran on September 24.
