The Kadokawa Haruki Corporation lists a new book called Bankuruwase: Keishi-chō Keibi-bu Tokushu Sharyō Ni-ka (Shocking Upset: Metropolitan Police Special Vehicles Section 2) by acclaimed anime director Mamoru Oshii in January. The book is listed under the "detective/mystery/suspense" genre with a release date of January 31. The company's listings do not necessarily indicate definite release plans or dates.

Oshii co-created Patlabor with the rest of the members of the Headgear group, and he directed several of the Patlabor anime projects.

Oshii wrote a two-volume novelization of Mobile Police Patlabor 2 the Movie called Mobile Police Patlabor: Tokyo War. (The first volume is pictured at left.) He also wrote the manga version of his Kerberos Saga franchise and the Seraphim: 2-Oku 6661-Man 3336 no Tsubasa (Seraphim: 266,613,336 Wings) manga collaboration with the late director Satoshi Kon.
