Japan Foundation Sydney hosting Japan: Kingdom of Characters exhibit

The Japan Foundation Sydney will host Japan: Kingdom of Characters, an exhibition previously held at RMIT in Melbourne. The exhibition will run in The Japan Foundation Gallery from the 8th of April to the 28th of May.
Japan: Kingdom of Characters examines the role that characters, especially characters in anime and manga, play in Japanese culture and the impact they have on Japanese society. The exhibit features human-sized figures of popular characters from franchises such as Hello Kitty, Neon Genesis Evangelion and Mobile Suit Gundam along with products related to popular Japanese characters.
A free public program of anime films, lectures and panels will be held during the exhibition on the following Wednesdays;
- 13th April: Panel - Understanding Anime and Manga Character Design of the Magic Kingdom
- 20th April: Anime screening - The Place Promised in Our Early Days
- 27th April: Lecture - From Empire of Signs to Kingdom of Characters: From Kanji to Kyara
- 4th May: Anime screening - Jin-Roh - The Wolf Brigade
- 11th May: Anime screening - Wings of Honneamise
- 18th May: Lecture - Manga: Empathetic Media Expressing the Pain of the Individual
- 25th May: Lecture - Cult Media Pilgrimages to Japan's Kingdom of Characters
