WOTA London Club Night On May 27

posted on by Andrew Osmond
At Juno venue in Shoreditch.

The club WOTA London has announced its tenth meeting will be on Friday May 27. The event will be on the same Bank Holiday weekend as the London MCM Expo.

The meeting will start at 1900. According to the WOTA site, it will end at midnight, although a facebook page gives the finish time as 1130.

Since 2009, WOTA London has been playing anime songs on the dancefloor, along with J-Rock, J-Pop and other songs 'related to Otaku culture.' The May event will feature a DJ "Sound Duel" to be judged by the audience, a Paper, Rock and Scissors competion, and a return appearance for LDN48, the tribute group based on AKB48.

The venue will be Juno in Shoreditch, on 134-135 Shoreditch High Street (the nearest tubes are Old Street and Liverpool Street - see map). Entry is restricted to over-18s. Tickets are £4 in advance on the WOTA site, or £6 on the door (£5 on the door for WOTA facebook friends and mailing-list members). All cosplayers will get a £1 discount.

"Wota" (ヲタ - pronounced ota) is a shortened version of the Japanese word "otaku," and refers to idol-otaku. It is also often used in conjunction with a particular area of interest, for example anime fans are referred to as "anime-wota."
