Television series to premiere on July 7; main cast revealed

The official website of the Blood-C vampire anime project is now streaming a promotional video for the animated television series. The video reveals that the series will premiere on July 7.

The website also revealed the main cast for the series last week. Nana Mizuki (Naruto's Hinata, Shugo Chara!'s Utau Hoshina) will play the lead role of Saya Kisaragi. The remaining cast includes:

The project will also have a theatrical film next year.

The manga creator team CLAMP is developing the story and original character designs, and Production I.G is handling the animation. Tsutomu Mizushima (xxxHOLiC) is directing the project with creative supervision by Blood: The Last Vampire planning assistant and Blood+ director Jun'ichi Fujisaku.

Clamp's Nanase Ohkawa is supervising the scripts and co-writing them with Fujisaku. Kazuchika Kise is adapting Clamp's character designs for animation, and Naoki Satō is composing the music. In addition, Ranmaru Kotone (Diasta of Ultima Thule, Toki wo Kakeru Shōjo: Tokikake-) will adapt the project into a manga, which will launch in the July issue of Shōnen Ace on May 26.

The Blood franchise began with Hiroyuki Kitakubo and Production I.G's Blood: The Last Vampire film, in which Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell, The Sky Crawlers) and Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Eden of the East) created the story and screenplay. The film inspired Jun'ichi Fujisaku's Blood+ television series, Chris Nahon's live-action film remake, and several manga spinoffs.
