Rintaro, Madhouse Animate Meiji Candy Commercial

The animation Studio Madhouse and the Meiji candy company have collaborated to create an animated commercial to advertise three new flavors for Meiji's fruit juice gummi candies: grape, mandarin orange and fruit blend. Director Rintarō (Galaxy Express 999, Metropolis) directed the animation for the commercial, and Yūsuke Nakamura (The Tatami Galaxy) designed the characters. The Japanese pop band GReeeeN provided the music to the commercial with their song "Ai Uta" ("Love Song").
The "Megumi and Taiyō" commercial depicts the reunion of a girl named Megumi (Ai Hashimoto), who was raised near a grape orchard, and her childhood friend Taiyō (sakuma. Kazuyuki). The Meiji website is currently streaming a 15-second and a 30-second version (on the linked website, click on "CMギャラリー").
The collaboration will also include a special animated commercial coming out in July, and a "Tweet Love Story" Twitter event that will begin on June 1. Fans can follow both Megumi's and Taiyō's Twitter accounts and send messages of advice to Taiyō's character. The characters themselves will post messages in real time starting June 1. The companies also plan to sell character goods related to the story.
