The 25th Leeds International Film Festival in November has announced its line-up. It includes Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below (pictured) and Colorful, and the live-action manga adaptation Smuggler, along with other anime and manga-based films.

Following its U.K. premiere at the London Film Festival, Makoto Shinkai's Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below (Hoshi o Ou Kodomo) will be screened on Tuesday November 15 at 6 p.m. at Vue in the Light 2; and again on Saturday November 19 at 12 noon at the HYDE Park Picture House. The film centres on Asuna, a girl who spends her solitary days listening to the mysterious music emanating from the crystal radio she received from her father as a memento. She embarks on a journey of adventure in the underground realm of Agartha, and thus comes to know the cruelty and beauty of the world.

Colorful will be screened on Monday November 14 at 6 p.m. at Vue in the Light 2. Based on the movel by Eto Mori, the film is about a person trapped outside the endless circle of life and death. Thanks to winning a lottery in the angel world, the protagonist is brought back to inhabit the body of a 14-year-old boy — who just committed suicide.

Smuggler, screened on Sunday November 13 at the HYDE Park Picture House (8 p.m.), is a live-action adaptation of Shohei Manabe's Smuggler manga, by director Katsuhito Ishii. In the film, Ryōsuke Kinuta (Satoshi Tsumabuki) is a failed actor with serious debt problems. His loan shark arranges a job for him as part of a corpse disposal team, which transports the bodies of victims of gang hits out of the city. The team accepts work from both sides in an escalating mob war. Ishii previously directed Skin Man and Peach Hip Girl, The Taste of Tea, and Funky Forest, and also worked on the animated section of Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill: Vol. 1.

The festival also includes:

a screening of the new live-action film Karate Robo Zabogar (showing at Vue in the Light 2 on Monday November 14 at 4 p.m. and Tuesday November 15 at 8 p.m.). Directed by Noboru Iguchi in 2011, the film is described as "a hilariously over-the-top tribute to the transforming robots of Japanese television.")

- a screening of the classic 1988 Studio Ghibli war tragedy Grave of the Fireflies (Saturday November 5, HYDE Park Picture House, 12 noon).

- a screening of the live-action Detroit Metal City, a "death metal romantic musical comedy" based on the manga by Kiminori Wakasugi (Wednesday November 16, Leeds Town Hall 1, 6 p.m.).

- a screening of Yakuza Weapon, the live-action film of a manga by Ken Ishikawa (protégé of Gō Nagai). Thursday November 17, Vue in the Light 2, 8p.m.

- Also, the screening of the live-action Japanese comedy Milocrorze: A Love Story will be double-billed with the opening episode of the anime series The Tatami Galaxy (Tuesday November 15, HYDE Park Picture House, 8 p.m).

Tickets for all these screenings are £6.50 or £5 concessions, and can be booked here (scroll down to the respective title). The box office phone number is 0113 224 3801.
