Kappa Godaime TV Flash/Clay Anime Premieres

Student-made short film promoting Saga Prefecture screens in Wisconsin this month

The first installment of Kappa Godaime (Kappa the 5th), the first short film by Creative Platform Project (CPP), premiered on television in Japan today. CPP, a project established to deliver creative works from Saga Prefecture, created the short film that follows the life of a kappa (a river creature in Japanese folklore) through various artistic mediums such as animation and clay figures.

The story centers on a fifth-generation kappa who becomes a delinquent and runs away from home. Kappa joins "The Evil Organization" but grows tired of its brutal ways. He and his monster friends decide to reform their lives and live for their hometown, Saga.

With Hideyuki Haga directing, a group of Saga University students created the 13-minute Kappa Godaime film. One of the film's goals is to provide an economic stimulus to Saga Prefecture. Kappa Godaime features Saga specialties such as local dishes and native fish.

The film screened within Saga earlier this year and in Cambodia in June. It will also screen at the 2011 Weyauwega International Film Festival on November 10 in Wisconsin and in New York next year.

Kappa Godaime will air in 14 installments on the Saga Television Station at 1:10 a.m. from Mondays to Wednesdays in November. CPP posted a 35-second trailer in April and the entire film with English subtitles in July on YouTube.
