Italian comic artist's black chick character starred in 1972, 1992 anime series

The Italian comic artist Carlo Peroni, co-creator of the Calimero anime series, passed away on Tuesday from an unknown cause. He was 82.

Peroni claimed that he created Calimero's titular black chick character. The cartoonist worked with the Pagot brothers who also contributed to the story's original concept. Toei produced the first 47-episode Calimero television anime series in 1972 as well as the 52-episode remake that aired in Japan from October 1992 to September 1993. After his first appearance on the Italian television show Carosello in 1963, Calimero became a popular character in Italy.
