Discotek Adds The Venus Wars Science-Fiction Anime Film

Yoshikazu Yasuhiko directs film of his own manga about war on terraformed Venus

The North America anime distributor Discotek Media revealed on Friday that it will release The Venus Wars anime film. In this 1989 work, director Yoshikazu Yasuhiko adapts his own 1986-1990 manga about a teenaged biker team and a reporter from Earth who are caught in a brewing war on a terraformed Venus. (The film takes the regular motorcycles in the manga and turns them into one-wheeled motorcycles.) Central Park Media once licensed this film in North America.

Yasuhiko is best known for designing the characters in the first Mobile Suit Gundam anime series, but he has since created several popular manga, including Arion, Jesus, Joan, and Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin. Joe Hisaishi composed the music in this film, several years after starting his long collaboration with Hayao Miyazaki on the films Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Laputa - Castle in the Sky, and My Neighbor Totoro.

Discotek's release will have a remastered anamorphic transfer with English dubbing, English subtitles, and Japanese dubbing.

Update: More background information added.
