Children Who Chase Lost Voices Licensed by Viz Media Europe (Updated)

Viz Media Europe announced on Tuesday that it has licensed Makoto Shinkai's Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below (Hoshi o Ou Kodomo) anime film and will release in on DVD and Blu-Ray in July 2012 in the UK, France, Netherlands, Italy and Germany. Kazé UK tweeted that it would handle the release.
On its twitter feed, Kaze also said it hoped to "match" the U.K. release to the film's French release, which would be at the Japan Expo convention in July. Additionally, Kaze said it would like to give the film a U.K. tour of some kind, "even if it's a series of one-off screenings." The film will have a screening at the Glasgow Film Theatre on Sunday February 12.
Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below centers on Asuna, a girl who spends her solitary days listening to the mysterious music emanating from the crystal radio she received from her father as a memento. One day, she embarks on a journey of adventure to find a mysterious boy she just met, and thus comes to know the cruelty and beauty of the world, as well as loss.
The film is the latest work by Shinkai, the creator of Voices of a Distant Star, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, and 5 Centimeters Per Second. The new film opened in Japan on May 7, 2011.
Takayo Nishimura (5 Centimeters Per Second, Before Green Gables) designed the characters and oversaw the animation process. Takumi Tanji (5 Centimeters Per Second, The Place Promised in Our Early Days) directed the art, and musical composer Tenmon (5 Centimeters Per Second, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, Voices of a Distant Star) collaborated with Shinkai again on this project. The film held its UK premiere at the London Film Festival in October.
