Anime Films at Leeds March 31 (Updated)

posted on by Andrew Osmond

Update - The venue for the screening is confirmed as HYDE Park Picture House, and tickets can now be booked directly through the festival site.

The Leeds Young People's Film Festival will screen two anime films on Saturday March 31: Welcome to THE SPACE SHOW and Makoto's Shinkai's Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below. Both films will be shown in Japanese with English subtitles at the HYDE Park Picture House (map).

Tickets can be bought online (scroll down to Saturday 31 March). Also, tickets and passes are available from Leeds City Centre Box Office (in the Carriageworks Theatre, map), or by calling 0113 224 3801. Tickets are £5 for adults (£4 concessions) or £2 for under-19s. The screenings will be at the HYDE Park Picture House (map and directions).

Welcome to THE SPACE SHOW (PG, pictured right) will be shown at 6 p.m. Fifth grader Natsuki Ōyama has just moved into the countryside when she and four of her schoolmates embark on an space-spanning adventure. Susan Boyle (Britain's Got Talent), contributed her "Who I Was Born to Be" song as the theme of the film.

Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below (12A, pictured left) will be shown at 8.30 p.m. Makoto Shinkai's latest film centres on Asuna, a girl who spends her solitary days listening to the mysterious music emanating from the crystal radio she received from her father as a memento. She embarks on a journey of adventure in the underground realm of Agartha, and thus comes to know the cruelty and beauty of the world.
