Xam'd Director, Geass Writer Make Fuse Mythological Anime Film

The official website for the anime film adaptation of Kazuki Sakuraba's Fuse Gansaku: Satomi Hakkenden novel opened this week and revealed the film's cast and fall release date.
In Kyokutei Bakin's classic Japanese epic novel Nansō Satomi Hakkenden, eight samurai serve the Satomi clan during Japan's tumultuous Sengoku (Warring States) era. The Edo-era samurai are the reincarnations of the spirits that Princess Fuse mothered with a dog named Yatsufusa. In Fuse Gansaku: Satomi Hakkenden, the female hunter Hamaji comes to her brother in order to hunt Fuse. Thus, the karmic cycle of retribution that began long ago with the Satomi family begins anew.
Various novel authors and creators have reinterpreted the story since Bakin first published it in the 1800s, but this is the tale's first theatrical anime film adaptation. The Japanese publisher Bungeishunjū is producing the film as its 90th anniversary commemorative project. Masayuki Miyaji (Xam'd: Lost Memories) will debut as a theatrical anime film director with a script by Ichiro Okouchi (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion). Designers Okama (Evangelion remake films) and Seiichi Hashimoto (Xam'd: Lost Memories) and composer Michiru Oshima (first Fullmetal Alchemist anime) are also contributing.
