Maker of amusement prizes and photo booths acquires Jewelpet, Tokyo Mew Mew Producer

Furyu Corporation, a maker of Japanese photo booths ("print club" or "purikura" booths), cell phone games, prizes, and more, announced on Tuesday that they had acquired We've, Inc., the animation production company responsible for titles including the Jewelpet series and the Tokyo Mew Mew series. We've, Inc., also manages the Sesame Street property in Japan, which Furyu has created prizes of in the past.

Furyu was started in 1997 as a new business in the entertainment field by the Japanese electronics manufacturing firm Omron, establishing itself as an independent corporation in April 2007. In 2010, Furyu had about 18.422 billion yen in sales (about US$226 million) and an operating profit of around 3.168 billion yen (about US$ 39 million). With the acquisition of We've, Furyu plans to become a comprehensive entertainment company, beginning operations in the fields of anime, film, and publishing.
