Hiroshi Motomiya's series to take place 20 years after original protagonist's death

This year's 13th issue of Shueisha's Grand Jump magazine revealed on Wednesday that manga creator Hiroshi Motomiya (Salaryman Kintaro, Ore no Sora) will launch his fourth Otokogi manga series in the next issue. Otokogi: New Wave will premiere in the magazine on June 6.

The new manga's story will take place 20 years after the death of the legendary man Kyōtarō, the protagonist in the previous series. Kyōichi carries the same heroic spirit as Kyōtarō and follows in his father's footsteps.

The manga will feature on the cover of this year's 14th issue of Grand Jump. The 35-page first chapter will include a full-color opening page.

Motomiya's original Otokogi manga serialized in Shogakukan's Big Comic magazine from 1979 to 1980. Shueisha's Manga Allman magazine published the second series, Shin Otokogi, from 1995 to 1997. The second sequel, Otokogi Yondaime also ran in Manga Allman from 1999 to 2000.

A three-episode anime adaptation of the original manga series premiered between 1990 and 1991. Shin Otokogi received a one-episode anime adaptation in 1998. A four-episode live-action video series based on Shin Otokogi was also released from 1997 to 2000.
