Anime Style Magazine Reboot Scheduled for July Release

posted on by Ko Ransom
First issue to have feature on Hosoda's Ame & Yuki, bonus production materials from film

The Web Anime Style online Japanese animation magazine announced on Friday that a reboot of the Anime Style print magazine will begin publication this July. The first issue of the new magazine will be titled Anime Style 0001, and will be released on July 20 for a price of 1,575 yen (about US$20).

The magazine's first issue will have a major feature on Mamoru Hosoda's upcoming film Ōkami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki, which will open in Japanese theaters on July 21, a day after the magazine's release. The issue will come bundled with a collection of character reference sheets from the film's production. It will also include articles on topics including the Galaxy Angel series, the animator and animation director Haruko Iizuka (Idolm@ster, Ōkami-san & Her Seven Companions), and an interview with animation director Kenji Kamiyama (009 Re:Cyborg, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) on 3D animation. Anime Style editor-in-chief Yūichirō Oguro also revealed that the second issue will have a special on the anime director Ayumu Watanabe (Mysterious Girlfriend X, Space Brothers).

Anime Style first launched as a magazine in 2000, only to fold after two print issues. However, it then moved to a Internet-only format titled Web Anime Style shortly thereafter. An earlier re-launch of the magazine titled Gekkan Anime Style was announced in January 2011, six issues of which were published between May 2011 to February 2012. While Gekkan Anime Style was primarily sold via the internet, there are plans for the latest series to have wider distribution in regular bookstores.
