Morita's 'Tsukumo' Short Confirmed in Otomo's Short Peace

Kakurenbo/Freedom's Shuhei Morita directs short in Katsuhiro Ōtomo & Sunrise's anthology

"Tsukumo," the new short from Kakurenbo creator and Freedom director Shuhei Morita, was confirmed as part of Katsuhiro Ōtomo and Sunrise's anthology Short Peace at the Annecy Film Festival and on the anthology's official website this past week. "Tsukumo" competed at the June 4-9 festival along with Otomo's own "Hi-no-youjin" ("Combustible") anime short.

The Annecy website describes the 14-minute "Tsukumo":

One night in the 18th Century, deep in the mountains, a man loses his way and comes across a small shrine. As he enters, the space transforms into a room of a different world.

Short Peace is an omnibus project assembling "top creators at the leading edge of Japanese animation, exploring possible future avenues of expression." There will be four shorts in the anthology, including "Hi-no-youjin" and "Tsukumo." Short Peace is also the title of a collection of Otomo's manga shorts that was first published in the 1970s. Yasumasa Tsuchiya is producing the shorts at Sunrise.
