Kindaichi Case Files Manga Gets New Live-Action TV Special

Hey! Say! JUMP's Ryōsuke Yamada stars in 1st new version of Seimaru Amagi detective manga in 8 years

The Mainichi Shimbun's Mantan Web website reported on Tuesday that the Kindaichi Case Files manga by Seimaru Amagi (also known as Tadashi Agi) will be adapted as the upcoming live-action television special Kindaichi Shonen no Jikenbo: Hong Kong Kyūryū Zaihou Satsujin Jiken (Kindaichi Case Files: The Hong Kong Kowloon Treasure Murder Case) — the manga's first new live-action television adaptation in eight years. The protagonist of the series, Hajime Kindaichi, will be played by Ryosuke Yamada of the Hey! Say! JUMP boy band.

The title will cover the case of Kindaichi attempting to track down his childhood friend Miyuki Nanase when she is kidnapped in Hong Kong while there for a fashion show. Furthermore, when Kindaichi teams up with the model Yanran to track her down, murders begin occurring on the eve of the show.

Kodansha announced last month that the 20th-anniversary reprint of the third and fourth volumes of this Weekly Shōnen Magazine title will bundle two original anime DVDs. The manga already inspired a television anime series and several film and video spinoffs. Tokyopop published part of the manga in North America.
