Next Comiket Events Accept Previously Barred Kuroko's Basketball Circles

Comic Market 84 & 85 to give Kuroko's Basketball circle applications priority

The Comic Market Preparations Committee, the group responsible for organizing the largest dōjinshi event in the world, announced on Saturday that the next Comic Market (Comiket) events will accept Kuroko's Basketball circles barred from last month's Comiket 83. Circles disqualified from participating in the December 29-31 event can apply for this year's Comiket 84 and 85. Moreover, these circles will receive priority application processing.

The committee said that it will no longer refuse applications from circles that focus on a specific genre or work. However, it noted that regulations may change in the future, depending on requests from the Tokyo Big Sight event hall staff or the police. The committee also apologized for inconveniences caused by the previous barring of Kuroko's Basketball dōjinshi, goods, and other materials from Comiket events.

Comiket 84 is scheduled to run from August 10 to August 12, while Comiket 85 is planned for December. Comiket 84 began accepting mailed circle participation applications on December 28, and that registration period will close on February 5. The online application process will run from January 29 to February 19.

Since October, more than 30 locations linked to Kuroko's Basketball manga creator Tadatoshi Fujimaki have received threat letters with powdered and liquid substances. Several Kuroko's Basketball dōjinshi events throughout Japan were cancelled in the aftermath of the threats. A source in the investigation of the threats said there is a high possibility that the liquid sent to Sophia University (Fujimaki's alma mater) on October 12 could emit a lethal dose of hydrogen sulfide if vaporized.

Comic City Tokyo 131, a dōjinshi event scheduled for this Sunday, will allow Kuroko's Basketball circles, even though the Big Sight staff asked the organizers to reconsider. Despite this, the Big Sight staff is allowing the event to continue, although the staff made the event's organizers promise to “take complete responsibility and implement the ultimate countermeasures for the safety of the attendees.”

On the other hand, the organizers of Double Clutch, a Kuroko's Basketball dōjinshi event scheduled for February 10, complied with Big Sight's request to cancel the event. Double Clutch organizers had repeatedly rejected the requests, but later complied due to concerns for their customers' safety. Unlike Comic Market and Comic City, Double Clutch was dedicated only to Kuroko's Basketball.
