New Production I.G action film will have UK cinema screenings 'around April.'

Anime Limited has announced that it will be releasing the action/SF cinema film 009 RE:CYBORG, directed by Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) and animated by Production I.G The film will receive a UK release in cinemas 'around April.' (More details below.)

The film is made in CGI animation and shown in 3D, and is based on Shōtarō Ishinomori's classic science-fiction manga, Cyborg 009. The YouTube channel of director Kenji Kamiyama (Eden of the East, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) is streaming the trailer (below). The story begins when skyscrapers in London, Moscow, Berlin, and New York are destroyed by simultaneous bombings, causing widespread panic throughout the world. A group of nine cyborg fighters is reunited, but their former leader is living alone in Tokyo with his memories wiped.

The new podcast of the website UK Anime News includes an interview with Andrew Partridge of Anime Limited in which he talks about the release. He said that his 'goal' was to get the film on about 15 UK screens, over a period of two weeks.

The film was intended to have been the 'surprise' UK premiere screening at the Glasgow Film Theatre on Sunday February 10. However, there was a problem delivering the film to the cinema, and so the screening was replaced with one of Makoto Shinkai's film 5 Centimeters Per Second (distributed by Manga Entertainment).

In his introduction to the screening, Andrew Partridge of Anime Limited apologised for the last-minute substitution, and added that Anime Limited would also be releasing Makoto Shinkai's previous film, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, which is currently deleted in the UK.

Update - More details added.
