Manga Entertainment Announce Appleseed XIII and Fairy Tail Season 2

posted on by Andrew Osmond
Announcements during live podcast at MCM Birmingham Comic Con.

At the MCM Birmingham Comic Con on Saturday March 16, Manga Entertainment announced it would be releasing Appleseed XIII and the second season of Fairy Tail. The dates of both releases are still to be confirmed, although (according to the twitter of UK Anime News), the first volume of Fairy Tail S2 will 'probably' be released in the final quarter of 2013.

Appleseed XIII is a new retelling of Masamune Shirow's Appleseed future paramilitary manga, separate from Kazuyoshi Katayama's previous original video anime and Shinji Aramaki's two computer-animated movies. This series consists of 13 22-minute direct-to-video anime episodes, plus two feature-length compilation films of the episodes. Takayuki Hamana (The Beast Player Erin, Chocolate Underground, Library War, Moshidora, The Prince of Tennis) directed the animators at Jinni's Animation Studios (Fireball), in cooperation with Production I.G.

In addition, the website UK Anime News posted further news from the podcast on its twitter feed. It reports that:

- Manga confirmed that Deadman Wonderland will be released on July 1 (DVD and Blu-ray);

- the Hellsing Ultimate 5-8 release will include a sub-only edition of an OVA episode;

- Jormungand is scheduled for late summer:

- Manga is talking to Toei about the movie spinoffs from Dragon Ball Z and One Piece, especially One Piece Film Strong World;

- Berserk Ōgon Jidai-Hen II: Doldrey Kōryaku (the second Berserk feature film) is scheduled for late October;

- the Fairy Tail movie should be released in 2013.
