Adaptation of picture book by Keiko Sootome and Polar Bear's Café's Toru Hosokawa to open on May 18

The official website for the animated film adaptation of Keiko Sootome and Toru Hosokawa's Baka Mukashi Banashi (Silly Folk Tales) picture book began streaming a teaser trailer for the movie on Sunday. The movie will be titled Baka Mukashi Banashi Gekijōban ~Jijii Wars~ (Silly Folk Tails the Movie - Old Man Wars), and will be open in the Shinjuku Wald 9, Umeda Burg 7, Yokohama Burg 13, T-Joy Kyoto, and T-Joy Hakata theaters on May 18.

Sootome and Hosokawa are directing the film, and Hosokawa, who also worked on the scripts for Coji-Coji and Polar Bear's Café, is writing the scripts. King Records is producing the film and handling distribution. The film will star Yōichi Nukumizu (Always San-chōme no Yūhi '64).

Baka Mukashi Banashi shipped in Japan in 2010, and an anime DVD adaptation shipped in spring 2011. Hosokawa also wrote the script for the anime DVD. The book itself tells silly, darkly humorous versions of classic Japanese folklore.
