High School Debut Sequel Manga's 1-Shot to Run in May

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Artist Kazune Kawahara will draw a new one-shot chapter for Enkoi Debut (Eternal Love Debut), the follow-up manga to her High School Debut shojo romance manga, for the June issue of Shueisha's Betsuma Margaret magazine on May 13. The chapter is to commemorate the magazine's 50th anniversary.

Kawahara's High School Debut shōjo manga also ran in Bessatsu Margaret between 2003 and 2008. Viz Media released all 13 volumes of the original manga run between 2008-2010. A live-action film adaptation of the manga premiered in April 2011. The live-action film adaptation itself inspired a five-episode mobile phone spinoff show in March 2011.

Kawahara has published Enkoi Debut one-shots periodically, including a chapter in 2008 and 2009. The Enkoi Debut story begins one month after the end of High School Debut. A separate High School Debut spin-off one-shot, "Osananajimi wa Gakunenchō" (My Childhood Friend is the Class President) was published in 2008.

The High School Debut manga's story follows a girl who recruits a boy to remake her image and get a boyfriend. Under Yoh's supervision, Haruna transforms from a softball-playing tomboy to a feminine girl. However, Yoh adds one catch to their agreement: Haruna cannot fall in love with Yoh himself.

Kawahara followed High School Debut with her Aozora Yell high school band manga in 2008, and currently pens the Ore Monogatari!! (My Story) with artist Aruko's (Yasuko to Kenji, Shūdensha) in Bessatsu Margaret.
