Conan, Shin-chan Films Debut on Top, Pushing Dragon Ball to #4

The Detective Conan: Private Eye in the Distant Sea film opened this past weekend in the #1 spot at the box office. The 17th Detective Conan film sold 565,914 tickets and earned 671,548,700 yen (about US$6,755,110) on 344 screens. That is 106.6% of the opening weekend box office that last year's film, Detective Conan: The Eleventh Striker, earned on its way to an eventual final total of 3.29 billion yen (US$35.4 million).

The gender split for the latest Detective Conan film was 40% male, 60% female. 26.6% of the audience were in their 20s, 22.7% between 16 and 19, and 16.8% in their 40s.

The Eiga Crayon Shin-chan: Bakauma—! B-Kyū Gourmet Survival!! film ranked #2. It sold 199,993 tickets for 225,337,650 yen (US$2,268,700) on 324 screens.

The Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods film dropped to #4 (below Steven Spielberg's Lincoln) after staying at #1 for three weeks. Total revenue climbed to 2,469,815,950 yen (about US$24.8 million) with 2,028,523 tickets sold.
