Gurren Lagann Blu-ray Will Include Films and Parallel Works

posted on by Andrew Osmond
Anime Limited says Blu-ray release will include two films and 'Parallel Works.'

On its facebook page, Anime Limited has announced more details about its forthcoming release of Gainax's Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann robot anime series on both DVD and Blu-ray. Anime Limited said:

With your copy of TTGL on blu-ray, you will now get the 2 TTGL movies AND the parallel works! That's right - we're throwing in all those extras with the set! These will be split between the 2 blu-ray sets. How & what will be where, we're still waiting on licensor approval. But rest assured, you'll be getting all the goodies with your blu-ray copy of Gurren Lagann! AND it won't be $500.

Anime Limited also added:

Price points, dates and 'goodies' are still to be confirmed. But the movies & the parallel works are definitely included in the sets. Minding my turn of phrase!

Additionally, Anime Limited confirmed that the films will be subtitled-only.

The two Gurren Lagann feature films are Gurren Lagann the Movie –Childhood's End-, (compiled from the 15 TV episodes with some new footage) and Gurren Lagann the Movie – The Lights in the Sky Are Stars (a sequel to the series). In addition, the two OAVs are Gurren Lagann Parallel Works and Gurren Lagann Parallel Works 2. These two DVDs consist of spinoff shorts that explored the theme of "multiple universes," with background music from the television series.

According to a previous press release by Anime Limited earlier this week, "Gurren Lagann will be available in the autumn in one complete DVD collection. It will have two Blu-ray sets with release to be confirmed shortly when pre-orders go live." As of writing, Anime Limited has not said anything about whether the spinoff films and parallel works will be included on the DVD edition.

The Gurren Lagann series is set on a future Earth where people are forced to live in isolated underground villages. One boy uncovers a key to a robot, and the resulting adventures put him in the battles waging on the surface and lead him to the secrets behind humanity's new existence.
