Manga to launch in Shogakukan's children's magazine Pucchigumi in August

The August issue of Shogakukan's Pucchigumi magazine revealed on Saturday that Akira Himekawa is drawing the previously announced manga based on Hasbro's My Little Pony ~Tomodachi wa Mahō~ (My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic) television series. The manga will debut in the next issue on August 12. The two manga creators who go by the name Akira Himekawa have been drawing various Legend of Zelda manga over the years.

A flyer passed out at Tokyo International Anime Fair in March revealed that a manga was in the works in the children's magazine. Pucchigumi has been the home for manga from the Tamagotchi!, Barbie, Stitch, Pretty Rhythm, Kirarin Revolution, and Jewelpet franchises.

The Japanese dub cast of Hasbro's show includes Miyuki Sawashiro (Twilight Sparkle), Suzuko Mimori (Pinkie Pie), Sora Tokui (Applejack), Izumi Kitta (Rainbow Dash), Mikoi Sasaki (Rarity), Emiri Katō (Fluttershy), Motoko Kumai (Spike), and Kikuko Inoue (Princess Celestia). Mimori and the cast of the Yuruyuri anime contributed the opening theme songs "Mirai Start" (Future Start) and "Magical Dai☆Dai☆Bōken!” (Great Big Magical Adventure!), while AKB48's sister idol group HKT48 contributed "Kataomoi no Karaage (Amakuchi Hime)" as the ending theme.

The My Little Pony ~Tomodachi wa Mahō~ show premiered in Japan in April.

Viz published Himekawa's Zelda manga in North America, including The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Oracle of Seasons, Oracle of Ages, Four Swords, The Minish Cap, A Link to the Past, and Phantom Hourglass.
